Tier 2 Estonia

Estonian Tier-2 computing center has been built for CMS data analysis. The center consists of the following hardware:

  • 128 servers of Intel E5-2560 with 32 compute cores and 64GB of RAM
  • 40 servers of AMD Opteron 6172 with 24 compute cores and 48GB of RAM
  • Dedicated and distributed storage amounting to 2PB of raw capacity or 1PB of redundant capacity
  • A full 10GbE interconnect mesh between all servers

The whole infrastructure is virtualized through OpenNode cloud technology allowing for easy management of compute resources and software versions.

The whole capacity is 5056 compute cores, 2PB of raw disk usable for storage and fast interconnect. We utilize SLURM scheduling of jobs both for local and Grid based access.

The Tier-2 center is mostly used by the local group, CMS Grid users and is also part of the ETAIS HPC activity in Estonia
